A Swiss wolf is roaming around Budapest
The nature guard service is on standby at all times. If there is no signal for a longer period, a cautious search will be launched.
The nature conservation group Gruppe Wolf Schweiz is monitoring the fate of 26 wolves, some of which are equipped with transmitters. The GWS has published a map on its social networking site showing the wolf M237 as it migrates through Hungary.
The male, born in 2021, left the Swiss Stagias pack last spring. “The wolf, codenumber M237, which has migrated more than seven hundred kilometres from the Lower Rhine Valley to the VĂ©rtes near Budapest, is still in the Budapest area,” said David Gerke of GWS for the sokszĂnűvidĂ©k.hu.
The specialist said that the animal’s movements had slowed down. According to the Directorate of the Danube-Ipoly National Park, the wolf spends the day in hiding, far from the hiking areas.
“It’s important to note that the wolf avoids humans, is afraid of them and is extremely cautious when walking between settlements. Wild wolves are not known to attack humans in Europe, and there has not been a single case of this kind in Hungary,” said Gergely KĂ¡lmĂ¡n, Communications Officer.
